Bossier Parish Community College is celebrating its 50th year!

§  This fall 2017 marks Bossier Parish Community College’s 50th Anniversary. Throughout the academic year (fall 2017-Summer 2018), many events are planned to commemorate this milestone, including a campus-wide birthday party in the fall. The Annual BPCC 100 fundraiser in November will also highlight the anniversary. BPCC is proud to have served the Northwest Louisiana community since 1967.

New Building

§  BPCC’s Nursing and Allied Health Building will open to students this fall 2017. It is located on the northwest corner of Cyber Innovation Center’s property. The four-story, 80,000+ square feet building will give the division of Science, Nursing, and Allied Health additional classroom and lab spaces as well as study areas and meeting rooms.

Concordia Universty

Below is a list of our total cost and requirements for acceptance and scholarships: Total cost of our college is $17,020 a year (No out-of-state tuition fee) Minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 on their final high school transcript to be accepted Our institutional scholarships start at a 2.5 GPA. For example, if your students have a 3.0 GPA and a 18 ACT or 860 SAT, they will qualify for $5000 in scholarships. The high their GPA and ACT/SAT score the higher the scholarship amount. Our scholarship deadline is, May 31, 2018 Concordia College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associates and bachelors degrees.

Delgado Community College

§  Delgado named “Best Two-Year College” in the Greater New Orleans Region. ‘City Business’ 2017 Reader Rankings survey generated responses from over 2,300 business professionals from across the New Orleans area about which organizations best support the business community.

§  Coca-Cola Scholarship: Received a $198,000 grant through the Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship program from the Coca-Cola Foundation. Delgado will be able to award 23 African-American women with an $8,400 grant to attend Delgado for 2 years.

§  Accelerated Online options for Business programs: Beginning in the fall 2017 semester, Delgado business students can complete their degree fully online with 8-week sessions, and possibly complete the program sooner. There will be two 8-week sessions each semester and the student can take three courses each session. A student beginning in fall 2017 and taking three classes per session including summer could graduate in December 2018.


Fletcher Technical Community College

Important Dates/Deadlines:

§  Fletcher is now offering mini sessions that are 8 weeks long so that students can complete classes more quickly.

§  Fletcher now has a Student Success Center that gives students one stop access to advising, tutoring, and testing.

§  Fletcher has entered into an articulation agreement with Delgado Community College to offer several Allied Health programs with a seamlessly transition in the following programs: Dietetic Technician, Medical Coding, Medical Laboratory Technician, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Ophthalmic Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Physical Therapy Technician, Radiation Therapy, Funeral Service Education and Radiologic Technology. This agreement will allow students at Fletcher Technical Community College to begin their education at Fletcher and complete it seamlessly at Delgado Community College.

§  New Entrepreneurship Major

As a top 12 most entrepreneurial school in the country, we are proud to announce our new paired degree in entrepreneurship within the E.J. Ourso College of Business. The bachelor of entrepreneurship is a 120-hour program and must be paired with another bachelor’s degree from any program on campus. Entrepreneurship students will study how to operate, grow, and manage his or her own business; learn how to be creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial in an existing organization; and learn how to generate new wealth and create social change that results in improved quality-of-life, greater morale, and economic freedom in the development of his or her community.

§  UREC Expansion

Our University Recreation Center (UREC) recently finished expansion and is now one of the most impressive recreation facilities in the country. The UREC is a 250,000-square-foot, innovative and comprehensive recreational facility featuring state of the art equipment, high-level programming, and modern amenities. Highlights include a leisure pool in the shape of LSU, a one-third mile indoor track, a boxing studio, functional training, multipurpose activity courts, an outdoor field complex, an adventure center, and three levels of cardio and weight lifting equipment.


LSU – Alexandria

LSU – Eunice

§  LSU Eunice is open-admission therefore no specific admission deadline, except reasonably before the start of intended semester.


§  A brand new “one stop shop” addition to the Acadian Center called the Geaux Center. Incorporates admission, recruitment and registrar in one easy, navigable area. Renovation of our cafeteria to provide more excellent meals and nutritional options and complete renovation of Bengal Village our 200 plus space apartment complex.

§  Diagnostic Medical Sonography Certificate program, newly created nursing clinical site based on the Lafayette General Hospital Campus in Lafayette, LA which allows 90 students to be accepted into the clinical phas3e and increase of 30 from previous years

§  Increased many of our scholarship awards, specifically our Centennial Scholarship ($1000 per semester), which is awarded to those students with a minimum ACT composite of a 25 and 3.0 TOPS GPA. Our softball and baseball teams combined have won a national championship 8 consecutive years and 10 out of the last 12 years.


LSU – Shreveport

Louisiana Tech University

§ Louisiana Tech is pleased to have the opportunity to partner with the Cyber Innovation Center to create a Louisiana Tech hub in the new BPCC STEM building in Bossier City, LA. The first floor will include the Cyber Training Center that was funded in part by the $1M donation from private donors.

§ This year the completion of new housing, new dining facilities, football stadium enhancements, additional parking, and the College of Business Building due to the steady increase of student enrollment.

§  College Choice has ranked Louisiana Tech’s elementary education program 4th in the nation and 1st in Louisiana in its list of the “35 Best Elementary Education Degrees for 2017.” The program was recognized for a “tradition of excellence” and its commitment to “being a leader in education; a catalyst for learning, research, and action.”


McNeese State University

Nicholls State University

§  New concentrations under the bachelor of art degree. Concentrations now offered in digital animation, 3D animation, and digital art.

§  Recent graduates of our biology pre-medicine program graduated at the top 1% of their class from LSU Medical School this past semester.

§  Nursing graduates maintained 100% job placement before graduation for the second consecutive year. Students who graduated in 2017 also achieved a 95% pass rate on the NCLEX on their first try. Our clinical classes are also increasing from a capacity of 60 to a capacity of 80 students per semester.

§  Northwestern State is proud to announce for Fall of 2017, the complete renovation of Varnado Resident Hall to house Creative and Performing Arts Students. This is a living and learning community the students get to live in an environment where they are able to practice, study and live with their peers under one roof.

§  Computer Information Systems is a fast growing program with a new grant that has enabled NSU to reach outside the university and have graduates placed in lucrative CIS positions upon graduation.

§  The Industrial and Electronic Engineering program has made an agreement with area plants in a new two year program called Advance Manufacturing Technology. This program allows students to go straight to work after high school in these selected plants, while receiving a two year degree with a future in the plants upon graduation.


Nunez Community College


§  Nunez now has a Baseball Team!

§  Our tuition will not increase yet again

§  Nunez now offers a PTEC Fast Track program.


Southeastern Louisiana University


§  The Southeastern Promise represents a new level of commitment to each of our students and their ability to succeed. Through this groundbreaking program – the only one of its kind in Louisiana – Southeastern will promise its students no tuition increases and class availability to ensure their degree completion in four years.

§  The Science & Technology Building, which will open fall 2017, is a new $24 million facility that will house several departments and labs for Computer Science, IT, and Engineering Technology. It is a 3-story, 70,000 square-foot facility that will include material testing, machine & manufacturing, automation and robotics, industrial hygiene and fire protections, electronics and drafting. The building will incorporate several features to go along with Southeastern’s sustainability initiatives to reduce energy consumption and cost, including storm water collection for irrigation, solar water heaters, and built-in controls for lighting and thermal comfort. Not to mention, 75% of the building will be lit by daylight!

§  Southeastern recently began construction on two brand new residence halls, set to be completed fall 2018 (Twelve Oaks Hall and Ascension Hall.) These halls will add additional beds to meet the demand for more on-campus housing.


SOWELA Technical Community College

Important Dates/Deadlines:

§  SOWELA Technical Community College recently ranked 30th in the U.S. out of 821 community colleges on the personal finance website WalletHub in its 2016 Best and Worst Community Colleges nationwide list based on the criteria of cost and financing, education outcomes, and career outcomes. Students wishing to pursue higher educational and training opportunities at an affordable price may do so at SOWELA, and upon completion, achieve their career goals.

§  SOWELA was also selected this spring as the Louisiana Career Preparedness Award recipient from among all of the applicants for the 2016-17 ACT College and Career Readiness Campaign. The Campaign was developed to help states shine a light on individuals and institutions that are doing more with less, overcoming obstacles, and serving as examples to others to improve the condition of college and career readiness for all.

§  SOWELA has open the doors to its brand new Student Success Building for the fall 2017. The building is called the Sycamore Student Success Building. It will house the One-Stop Office, Testing Center, Book Store, and Multi-purpose room for students.

§  Construction = progress. The A. B. Freeman School of Business is currently undergoing a $35 million, LEED Gold Certified renovation and expansion that will include new incubator and start-up spaces, new flexible classrooms, a new financial analysis lab, an expansion of the Business Career Management Center, and more. Tulane also launched the Brain Institute to coordinate and support brain-related research and neuroscience endeavors from faculty and students in Medicine, Science & Engineering, Public Health, Liberal Arts & the Primate Center. After Construction has also begun on Mussafer Hall which will be a LEED-silver certified, new combined home to the Academic Advising Center, Career, Services, and the Success Center. The 2-story addition to the main library, Howard Tilton Memorial, was recently completed.

§  New Maker Space – To support students’ hands-on learning in Architecture, Engineering, Business, Arts, and other disciplines, Tulane opened a newMaker Space which is equipped with 3-D printers, laser cutters, a 4-axis CNC milling machine, a full-equipped machine shop, wood shop, electronics laboratory, and more. Staff are on hand up to 50 hours per week and Tulane students have free use of the tools and equipment.


University of Holy Cross

§  University of Holy Cross (UHC) is one of eight Holy Cross colleges and universities nationwide.

§  UHC is taking the next steps toward becoming a residential campus. The first residence hall is currently under construction, which is scheduled to open fall 2018

§  Lastly, Hurricane Café, the student dining facility, has undergone extensive renovation this summer in order to provide a more comprehensive dining experience for students, which is scheduled to reopen early August 2017.


University of Louisiana – Monroe


§  According to the Ruffalo Noel Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory, ULM ranks above the national and UL system averages when it comes to making students feel welcomed and safe.

§  The opening of Sandel Hall. The $17.4 million building is a “one-stop shop” for students. Sandel Hall houses offices that serve the needs of both current and incoming students; including the Barnes & Noble bookstore, the office of recruitment, campus tours, admissions and scholarships, financial aid, and the university registrar. The building also includes a state-of-the art biology laboratory.

§  Our growing health sciences. ULM continues to set the standard in health care education with the addition of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program, with its first class beginning this fall. ULM is also in the initial stage of adding a doctoral program in Physical Therapy program to our ten existing, nationally ranked, health science programs.


University of New Orleans

§  The 2018 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges has selected Xavier University of Louisiana among its’ “Best Buy Schools” for academics and affordability.

§  Xavier University of Louisiana has earned the highest grade among Southern Schools in the Wall Street Journal/College Rankings for preparing its’ students for careers after graduation.

§  Beginning in fall 2017, Xavier University will offer a new major in Neuroscience and a new minor in Cognitive Neuroscience. Xavier’s new Neuroscience major is the first for undergraduates among Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
